Grab your tackle boxes, bait your hooks and cast your line as the first annual Habitat for HumanityFishing Derby commences on June 1st, 2017!
Habitat for Humanity’s Fishing Derby is a 6-week fishing derby for saltwater fishermen (and women) that will help to address the affordable housing crisis on Cape Cod. All participants must have a Massachusetts fishing license and comply with state fishing regulations.
How do I win?
Winners for largest fish, striped bass or bluefish (saltwater) or trout (freshwater), in each division and category, will be announced on July 15th at our Awards Celebration at Aselton Park, Hyannis.
What are the divisions?
Age: the derby will be broken out into adult fishermen (16 years and older), junior fishermen (15 years and younger), and families (one parent must be present and it may only consist of immediate family members)
Location: there will be a winner for on shore division and the off-shore division as well as for freshwater and saltwater fish
Method: fishermen can use any type of bait throughout the derby but must record what type was used for each recorded fish as prizes will be awarded for all tackle catch as well as fly tackle catch
Fish Type: fishermen can catch bluefish or striped bass in saltwater or trout in fresh water. Prizes will be awarded for each fish type
Where can I fish?
Shore Division: all eligible fish must be caught on the shores of Cape Cod and not further inland than the Cape Cod Canal.
Offshore Division: All fish entered in the “boat” division must be caught from a private boat no more than the legal limit off the shores of Cape Cod
