6 New Affordable Habitat for Humanity Homes Finished on Murray Lane, Harwich

On Thursday, November 17th at 2pm Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod invites the public at attend a Dedication, Celebration and Open House for 6 new affordable homes on Murray Lane in Harwich. (93-97 Main St.) Murray Lane is a new road, named in honor of affordable housing advocate Bob Murray. Visitors are asked to park at the First Baptist Church in West Harwich (62 MA-28) and walk to the site if they are able.

These homes were built with the dedication of community volunteers, the sweat equity of the soon to be home-owners, and many generous contributions from the community.

Major Funding was provided by Town of Harwich Community Preservation Act Funds, Harwich Affordable Housing Trust Fund, Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, The Coop Foundation,

Cape Cod 5 Foundation, Bank of America Foundation and The Harwich Fund. Home Sponsored by The Green Family-3 homes, Harwich Faith Build, Charlesbank Homes Foundation- 2 homes and Eastern Bank Foundation- 2 homes. Home Mortgages by the United States Dept. of Agriculture and Construction Financing by Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank. Solar Funding for the project was funded by Cape Light Compact and Anne Giblin and Ken Foreman. Other major support provided by, Housing Ministries of New England,  BuildBetter by Whirlpool, Shepley Wood Products , Fraser Construction ,Boston Granite Exchange , Attorney Kate Mitchell, Attorney Warren Brodie, Home Energy Raters, LLC, New England Air Barrier, J. Brown Landscaping and Magnum Moving & Storage.

Habitat homes range from one to three bedrooms and the price to the homeowner is $138,000 to $168,000. Habitat Cape Cod homes are typically net zero possible, with solar panels, and air source heat pumps, which don’t use fossil fuels or combustion, for less environmental impact while lowering the homeowner’s energy cost.

In the past 30 years, Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has developed over 165 affordable homes on Cape Cod, with 21 currently under construction.  Local families help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. And the Homes are deed restricted to remain affordable in perpetuity.
