YARMOUTH PORT, MA – A beloved piece of Cape Cod history has found a new home with Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod. Two original 27-foot-long “Christmas Tree Shops” signs, once displayed at the top of the iconic Hyannis store, have been donated to Habitat Cape Cod, with plans for a future charity auction to support the building of affordable homes across the Cape.
The donation was made possible thanks to the generosity of the property manager and the dedicated team at Shepley Wood Products, who provided equipment and support to safely retrieve and store the signs.
“We’re honored to be entrusted with these symbols of Cape Cod history,” said Wendy Cullinan, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod. “They hold nostalgic meaning for so many Cape residents and visitors. We’re excited to offer the community an opportunity to own a piece of that history while helping local families achieve their dream of homeownership.”
Details about the auction will be announced in the coming months. Proceeds will stay right here on Cape Cod, helping Habitat Cape Cod build affordable homes from Bourne to Provincetown.
Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has built nearly 200 homes from Bourne to Provincetown and is currently completing homes in Dennis and Wellfleet. In 2026, new builds in Falmouth, Brewster, and Pocasset will begin. Additional builds over the next few years are planned for Yarmouth, Marstons Mills, Orleans, and North Falmouth. Qualifying families are selected via drawing. Future homeowners contribute sweat equity by helping build their homes alongside local volunteers, and then they purchase their homes with an affordable mortgage. Habitat Cape Cod has been nationally recognized for building energy-efficient, affordable homes. All homes are deed-restricted to remain affordable in perpetuity.
