Falmouth, MA –
The Falmouth Affordable Housing Fund recently awarded Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod a total of two million dollars for two upcoming affordable homeownership projects in the Town of Falmouth. The awards were also endorsed by the Town’s Community Preservation Committee and approved by the Select Board, as Trustees of the Fund.
$500,000 was awarded as land acquisition and early construction funding for a 4-home project located at Gifford Street Extension, and $1.5 million was awarded toward land acquisition and early construction for a 14 home project in North Falmouth on Benjamin Nyes Lane. Both projects are currently working their way through the permitting process with construction expected to begin at Gifford Street Extension in fall 2025, and on Benjamin Nyes Lane in the spring of 2027.
Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has completed over 180 homes on Cape Cod and is currently building in Dennis and Wellfleet. Additional builds are planned for Yarmouth, Marstons Mills, Brewster, Orleans, and Sandwich. Qualifying families are selected via drawing, and future homeowners contribute sweat equity, helping build their homes alongside local volunteers, then purchase their homes with an affordable mortgage. Habitat Cape Cod has been awarded nationally for building energy-efficient, affordable homes. All homes are deed-restricted to remain affordable in perpetuity.
